Middleburg's Kory Geans to Speak at IMN Build-to-Rent Virtual Forum March 16, 2021

Middleburg Communities Chief Investment Officer, Kory Geans, will participate in the upcoming Information Management Network’s (IMN) Build-to-Rent (B2R) Virtual Forum on March, 16, 2021. Mr. Geans will speak on the panel titled, Crystal Balling the Future of Homebuilding and the Role of Build-to-Rent, addressing issues regarding industry stakeholders, trends in consumer behaviors driving demand for the product, the outlook for cap rates and insights on deals and activity within the industry. Mr. Geans is joining the IMN forum after leading the launch of Middleburg Communities’ The HamletSFR initiative in September 2020. The Hamlet program is an innovative approach that satisfies the growing demand for single family rental properties in high growth southeastern markets. The company recently finalized a joint venture that seeks to complete the development of more than 6,000 SFR units over the next three years. As Chief Investment Officer, Mr. Geans oversees all investment activity from formulation of each strategy through execution and asset management. Since joining Middleburg, Mr. Geans has been responsible for overseeing $300MM of equity investments in both multifamily development and acquisition strategies. Mr. Geans was previously at Grosvenor Group, where the company managed a development pipeline in excess of $2 Billion throughout markets in Canada and the United States. Mr. Geans managed the financial and risk analysis for the existing portfolio as well as joint ventures and new opportunities.

Prior to Grosvenor Group, Mr. Geans worked for Parmenter Realty Partners, a vertically integrated investment manager that operates a series of private equity funds investing in value-add office properties throughout the Mid-Atlantic, Southeastern and Southwestern U.S. Mr. Geans began his real estate career at Penzance, a local Washington, DC real estate operating company investing in both value-add multifamily and office properties exclusively in the Washington, DC MSA.

Prior to beginning his real estate career, Mr. Geans served in the United States Marine Corps in support of both Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Mr. Geans is a graduate of The Johns Hopkins University where he studied economics and international business. He graduated with honors and continues to participate in the Alumni Mentorship Program. Mr. Geans is an active participant in ULI, NMHC, NAIOP, and DCBIA.
